Barnstead has a history dating back to the early 1700's. Prior to that time, the Indians and the French used the area as a means of going from Lake Winnipesaukee to the seacoast.
he Town was incorporated in 1727. A charter was granted to Reverend Joseph Adams and others by Lt. Governor Wentworth. Many of the original settlers' descendants still reside in the area.
Considered the "stepping stone" to the Lakes Region, Barnstead's roots are in mills, logging and farming. The many small lakes in the town make it a great place to enjoy summer and winter sports.
